Abstract:
This lecture and workshop will address four questions:
- What is Emotional Intelligence(EQ)?
- Why is EQ important for health, happiness, and success?
- How can parents nurture EQ?
- How can parents improve their own EQ before coaching children?
Workshop includes hands-on experience, small group discussion, questions and answers.

Biography :
Dr. Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu is a psychologist specializing in Asian and American families. He has worked with children, adolescents, and parents in Japan and the U.S.
He received a doctorate from Harvard University and was a Fulbright scholar. Before coming to Stanford in 2002 he was professor of clinical psychology at Tokyo University for 12 years. He is president of PI, an education and health research group and the author of Multicultural Encounters and many other books and articles.
