Abstract:
This workshop is the follow-up to the seminar. As with any skills development, practice makes new neuro-connections in the brain for learning to occur. The workshop will give you a flavor of what typically happens in consultations and training. Reciprocal relationship, difference between adult driven and self-driven disciplinary methods, and positive reinforcement will be discussed. The participants will learn that their thoughts impact feelings that lead to behaviors. The thoughts and feelings that have positive impact on emotional intelligence will be practiced. Also, the participants will understand what it means to extract the best of Eastern and Western cultures to encourage emotional intelligence development. In small group format, an actual scenario will be shared and connections will be made from the discussion. Biography:
Dr. Sung has been actively working as a school psychologist for over 17 years in the public school system, five years in Chicago , Illinois and 12 years in Cupertino , California . She also functioned as a bilingual and bicultural school psychologist, working with the Asian population, privately and also contractually with other public schools in the area. Dr. Sung had personal experience with acculturation and assimilation, having grown up in United States since age six. She trained other school psychologists about cultural sensitivity in assessing a bilingual population and in-serviced teachers about cultural differences. She also provided consultation services to parents on parenting differences and their effect on children's emotional well-being.
Dr. Sung recently received her doctorate in education with a hope that she can make positive difference by integrating psychology and education.
